Every year, the run up to Christmas fills us with excitement. We get to look forward to all the preparations and events that await us; but in the meantime, can't help but feel slightly overwhelmed about how quickly a year has gone by!
When our son was seven, he was invited to a Bonfire night party for the first time, hosted by one of his school friend’s parents at their house. We were initially somewhat hesitant as young children could get so excited by the fire, however it turned out that the whole family was invited too so we gladly went along.
It was 23rd September yesterday, also the autumn equinox on both eastern and western calendar. As we bid farewell to summer, we begin to welcome in the colder seasons, looking forward to all of the exciting celebrations and festivals which are just around the corner.

It also signifies the return of a year’s beginning; the starting point of spring and the rejuvenation of the earth.
What seems to me like a long time ago now, there was a little tradition in our house on Valentine’s Day. On these mornings, there would always be two Valentine’s cards left for me on the kitchen table or outside my bedroom waiting to be opened.
Inside, the cards would be signed “Your secret admirer”, with lots of little kisses for good measure.
